– Elon Musk announced that the trial is not only for new customers but also available to current Tesla owners.

– Updates to Tesla’s website configuration pages for the Model Y, Model X, and Model S vehicles reflect this new offer. However, the Model 3’s Order Page lacks a mention of the free FSD trial for new purchasers.

– Elon Musk further elaborated on the offer via a post on X, stating: “All US cars that are capable of FSD will be enabled for a one-month trial this week.”

– The Full Self-Driving capability is priced at $12,000.

Tesla Implements Mandatory Driver-Assist Demos for U.S. Purchases

– Tesla, Inc. now mandates that its North American staff conduct installations and demonstrations of its driver-assistance technology for every vehicle sold in the U.S.

– CEO Elon Musk has declared this practice a “hard requirement,” acknowledging it may lead to slower delivery times for customers.

– Employees are instructed to take customers on a “short test ride” to showcase Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, as per an internal memo.

– Musk’s directive emphasizes the importance of supervised FSD, signaling a shift from previous ambitions for fully autonomous driving to a focus on enhancing the current capabilities of FSD, which is among the most advanced driver-assist systems available.

– Potential downside include adding significantly to the productivity of employees, a waste of time for employees and customers, impinging on your first experience driving away, overwhelming that first experience of being ready to take over at any moment, camera calibration of 50-100 miles (sometimes two days or more of driving), forcing a product on people which they don’t want, patronising existing Tesla drivers who have experience of FSD, upsets existing drivers who have been waiting for this version but new drivers get it on delivery day. Also v12.3 when it’s good, it’s great. But when it doesn’t work it will show off the negatives of FSD.

– I think a good demonstration of the tech would be to summon the car from the car park to where you collect your keys.

CATL Collaborates with Tesla for Enhanced Fast-Charging Batteries

– Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) is developing quicker charging battery technology for Tesla Inc., targeting to bolster its position in the market and introduce an electric vehicle priced below $25,000.

– Robin Zeng, the chairman of CATL, highlighted in an interview that there are opportunities to reduce costs for the sub-$25,000 electric vehicle, emphasizing, “There’s always room for cost reduction depending on what the $25,000 car’s aim is.”

– CATL is contributing equipment to Tesla’s production facility in Nevada, aiming to boost Tesla’s battery manufacturing capabilities there. This move is part of Tesla’s strategy to augment its battery production in Nevada using surplus equipment from CATL.

– Due to regulations, CATL cannot directly sell in the U.S. market. However, it is navigating this challenge by licensing its battery technology to American partners and receiving royalty fees in return.

– The company is arranging for engineers from Ford Motor Co. and potentially 10 to 20 other automotive manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe to receive training at CATL’s premises in Ningde, Fujian, China, or in Germany, to familiarize them with its battery technology.

– In February 2023, Ford agreed to utilize CATL’s technology for manufacturing batteries at a Michigan facility, a decision that has faced criticism from some U.S. lawmakers concerned about CATL’s connections to the Chinese government and the potential implications for U.S. interests.
