Hawaii Secures First Round Of NEVI Funding
Hawaii has successfully secured the first round of funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. The program is a federal initiative that aims to expand the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the United States.
The funding will be used to install new EV charging stations in various locations across Hawaii, including public parks, airports, and other public facilities. The goal is to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for residents and visitors.
The project is a collaboration between the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), the Hawaii State Energy Office (HSEO), and the Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO). These organizations will work together to plan and implement the new charging infrastructure.
This initiative is part of Hawaii’s broader efforts to transition to clean energy and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The state has set a goal to have 100% of its ground transportation powered by renewable energy by 2045.
The NEVI program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide by expanding the charging infrastructure. Hawaii is the first state to receive funding from this program.

The Top 10 Best Selling Used EV’s of 2023
A recent report has revealed the top 10 best-selling used electric vehicles (EVs) for the year 2023.
The Tesla Model 3 topped the list as the best-selling used EV. Other models in the top 10 list include the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, BMW i3, and the Tesla Model S.
The report also highlighted the growing popularity of used EVs. As more people become aware of the benefits of electric vehicles, the demand for used EVs is also increasing. This trend is expected to continue as more EV models become available in the used car market.
Buying a used EV can be a cost-effective way to transition to electric driving. Used EVs increasingly come with lower price tags compared to new models, and they can still offer good performance and range.

Volvo’s First-Ever People Carrier Spotted In China
The upcoming electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is a Volvo-badged version of the Zeekr 009, which is expected to have a power output of 400kW.
The new Volvo vehicle has been seen testing in China, and it’s expected to be revealed globally later this quarter, with a worldwide release planned for the end of the year.
The vehicle’s design shares many similarities with the Zeekr 009, including key lines and proportions. However, the Volvo version will have a less flashy front-end design.
The vehicle’s daytime running light signature is similar to those seen on the Volvo EX90 and EX30 SUVs. The headlights are set low and wide on the vehicle’s sculpted cheeks.
The prototype is quite large and is expected to be similar in size to the Zeekr 009, which is 5209mm long, 2024mm wide, and 1858mm high, with a 3205mm wheelbase. This would make it the largest Volvo to date.
The seven-seat Volvo MPV will use the same ‘Sustainable Experience Architecture’ as the rest of the Geely Group’s EVs.
Power and torque are expected to come from either a 116kWh or 140kWh battery pack, depending on the variant. Both power packs can support a 400kW/686Nm dual-motor powertrain in the Zeekr, which can go from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
There’s no indication yet that the Zeekr 009 will be sold in Western markets, but it’s likely that the Volvo version will find most of its customers there, competing with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQV.

Rolls-Royce Takes Stand Against Flipping of Spectre Electric Car
Luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce has taken a stand against the practice of “flipping” its new Spectre electric car. Flipping is when buyers purchase a new car with the intention of quickly reselling it at a higher price.
The Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s first all-electric vehicle and is highly sought after. However, the company wants to ensure that the cars go to genuine customers who intend to keep and use them, rather than to speculators looking to make a quick profit.
To prevent flipping, Rolls-Royce is implementing a policy where customers who are found to be flipping their cars will be banned from purchasing future models. This policy is designed to protect the brand’s reputation and ensure fairness for genuine customers.
The Spectre is a significant model for Rolls-Royce as it represents the company’s transition to electric mobility.

UK Aims to Reduce Carbon Emissions Through Smart EV Charging
The UK government is looking to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging the use of smart charging for electric vehicles (EVs). Smart charging involves charging EVs during off-peak hours when demand for electricity is low and renewable energy generation is high.
The government believes that smart charging can help balance the electricity grid and reduce reliance on fossil fuel power plants. This can lead to significant reductions in carbon emissions and contribute to the UK’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The government is also considering introducing regulations to require all new EV chargers to be smart chargers. This would ensure that all EVs can take advantage of smart charging and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.
The move towards smart charging is part of the UK’s broader strategy to transition to clean energy and electric mobility. The government is investing in renewable energy generation and electric vehicle infrastructure to support this transition.
The use of smart charging also has benefits for EV owners. By charging their vehicles during off-peak hours, owners can take advantage of lower electricity rates and save money on their energy bills.
