HUBJECT CERTIFIES HYPERCHARGER, QUALIFIES ALPITRONIC FOR PLUG&CHARGE
Hubject and alpitronic are pleased to announce that alpitronic’s HYC150 (150kW) and HYC300 (300kW) hyperchargers have successfully passed Hubject’s Plug&Charge (PnC) audit and are now fully certified. From now on, all drivers of Plug&Charge compatible EVs who have a PnC charging contract will be able to benefit from the advantages of the technology.
A joint project for the German BP subsidiary Aral Pulse proves that the cooperation between alpitronic and Hubject is highly effective. Together with has.to.be and DCS, the partners implemented Plug&Charge technology successfully at all locations equipped with ultrafast charging stations across the entirety of Germany.
Plug&Charge has the potential to be implemented on more than 10,000 PnC-ready hyperchargers by the end of this year when rolled out
FORD EV BATTERY MASTER PLAN PRIORITIZES JOINT VENTURE WITH SK
A new Ford EV battery master plan was revealed late last month, outlining a vast number of deals the automaker has been working on to secure the raw materials it needs moving forward from suppliers around the globe. Part of that plan involves FoMoCo’s recently-finalized joint venture with SK On, dubbed BlueOvalSK, which has been in the works for some time now. However, while it may seem like Ford is somewhat shunning SK by securing materials from a number of other sources, that isn’t the case at all, as Lisa Drake, Ford’s vice president of EV Industrialization elaborated on during a recent question and answer session related to this Ford EV announcement.
Drake said. “We have the three battery sub plants we now have in the U.S. – Tennessee and Kentucky – which are two sister plants, and I think you know we have an MOU we signed with the Koch family and SK for another plant in Turkey. So those are NCM plants and that’s where we’re focusing first on the nickel and lithium arrangements with SK as our partner, but we’re not stopping there. We’re going beyond that to make sure that the other arrangements that we’re making are also supported with some of the raw materials. So that’s the way I would think about it. We are targeting to have full control, that’s the target.”

LORDSTOWN MOTORS EXPECTS LIMITED PRODUCTION AND DELIVERIES OF ELECTRIC PICKUP IN 2022
Lordstown Motors on Thursday reaffirmed plans to begin commercial production of its first vehicle this quarter and roll out the first customer deliveries by the end of the year.Lordstown CEO Edward Hightower said production of the Endurance pickup will be slow and largely reliant on capital availability. The company reported its first quarterly operating profit of $61.3 million for the period ended June 30, despite not delivering any vehicles, on gains related to the sale of its Ohio factory to contract manufacturer Foxconn.
Lordstown and Foxconn announced in November plans for the Taiwan-based company to purchase the facility and an agreement for the company to manufacturer the struggling startup’s Endurance pickup. The deal was announced as Lordstown was in need of cash, delaying production of its pickup

B.C. HIKES ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE REBATES TO $4,000, EXPANDS VEHICLE ELIGIBILITY IN INCENTIVE PROGRAM REVAMP
Prospective zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) buyers in British Columbia are set to get a bit of extra help with vehicle affordability, thanks to a boost in the size of the province’s ZEV passenger vehicle rebates — but the amount of the payout will depend on a buyer’s income. Rebates for passenger ZEVs costing $55,000 or less in B.C. are being increased to a maximum of $4,000. But to be eligible for that rebate, an individual purchaser’s income must be below $80,000 or they must have a combined total household income of no more than $125,000.
British Columbia is currently Canada’s leading province in overall percentage of ZEV adoption (including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) at 13 per cent as of 2022. Over 54,000 provincial rebates have been issued since 2017

ARMY GROUND VEHICLE LAB RESEARCHES DIFFERENT BATTERIES IN QUEST FOR ELECTRIFIED FLEET
The US Army’s ground vehicle research lab is working on a collection of new batteries meant to propel the service toward hybrid and, eventually, fully-electric vehicles — ones that will give soldiers more operational flexibility in the field and could eventually power weapons systems.
In a recent interview with Breaking Defense, a lab official described how the service is in the early stages of a multi-decade journey to add hybrid and fully-electric vehicles into its fleet, in part to reduce its climate impact, but also because of electric power’s operational impact. The service’s recent climate strategy laid out plans to hybridize the service’s tactical fleet by 2035, with fully electric vehicles targeted for 2050.
. Current Army vehicles are powered by lead-acid 6T batteries, common to 80-90% of its fleet and a NATO standard power source
The operational benefits of that effort, he said, are the Lithium-Ion batteries allow for “extended” operations with the engine off. The battery will also improve anti-idling capabilities, which allows the on-board electronics to still function while the engine is off.
the Army, partnered with the Navy and Defense Innovation Unit, turned to the commercial automotive industry that’s already invested in the high-voltage batteries needed for the larger combat platforms. That effort, called JumpStart for Advanced Battery Standardization, is looking at how the commercial battery technologies can be packaged to meet as many of the military requirements as possible. Instead of militarizing the commercial battery itself, Jumpstart is also exploring strengthening the batteries’ enclosure within the vehicle to address survivability.
F1 CHAMP NICO ROSBERG TAKES DELIVERY OF RIMAC NEVERA #001
Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg is the first customer to take delivery of a production Rimac Nevera, the 1,914-horsepower electric hyper-GT that currently holds the title of fastest production car in the 1/4-mile. Hey, if you’re going to save the world from climate change, why not do it as fast as possible?
VIN #001 is not technically the first production-spec Nevera; that honor goes to (surprise, surprise) VIN #000, which Rimac keeps in-house as a showcase for its interior and exterior customization options. Rosberg optioned his in what he calls “full Batmobile spec,” or what an aging segment (Hi, friends!) of the enthusiast population still tries to call “murdered out.”
001’s exterior is finished in Stellar Black paint with polished Vertex wheels and gloss black brake calipers.
The interior is finished in all black Alcantara and features a ‘Nico Rosberg’ signature plaque on the armrest with its serial number affixed.

TESLA MAKES FIRST AUSTRALIAN MODEL Y DELIVERIES IN SYDNEY, THOUSANDS MORE TO FOLLOW
Australia’s transition to electric vehicles is taking a big leap forward on Friday with the first deliveries of the Model Y electric crossover, the bigger sister of the best-selling Model 3 sedan.
The Tesla Model 3 has accounted for the bulk of Australia’s relatively slow pace of EV adoption with more than half of the 45,000 EVs delivered to date, but the combined sales of the Model 3 and the Model Y is expected to push beyond 50,000 by the end of this year.
The first lucky customers were able to pick up their Model Ys in Sydney from around 10.30 on Friday morning.
The Driven understands that some staff took delivery of their cars on Thursday night, and Friday morning’s were definitely the first to customers
ELON MUSK ANNOUNCES TESLA’S 3 MILLIONTH ELECTRIC CAR
Since its founding in 2004, Tesla recently announced that it has already produced 3 million electric vehicles
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said that the company developed its 3 millionth vehicle over “the last few weeks” during the company’s annual shareholder meeting.
Tesla recently revealed that its Fremont factory had created its 2 millionth electric vehicle. The additional million cars came from the Gigafactories in Texas, Shanghai, and Berlin, all of which are still steadily increasing production.
“10 years ago, we had made less than 3,000 cars, now here we stand, 10 years later, having made 3 million cars,”
By 2030, Tesla plans to be able to manufacture 20 million electric vehicles annually. According to Electrek’s report, Musk stated during the meeting that he thinks Tesla will require about 12 Gigafactories to reach that objective.
Musk said that Tesla would probably reveal the location of the next Gigafactory later this year during the meeting.
CALIFORNIA DMV ACCUSES TESLA OF FALSELY ADVERTISING AUTOPILOT AND FULL SELF-DRIVING FEATURES
The California Department of Motor Vehicles has accused Tesla of false advertising in its promotion of the company’s signature Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies.
The agency alleges the electric-car maker misled customers with advertising language on its website describing Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies as more capable than they actually are.
The company “made or disseminated statements that are untrue or misleading, and not based on facts,” the DMV said in a pair of complaints filed with the state Office of Administrative Hearings on July 28.
The remedies proposed by the DMV if it prevails could be severe, including revocation of the company’s licenses to make or sell its cars in California.
But, the DMV said, the disclaimer “contradicts the original untrue or misleading labels and claims, which is misleading, and does not cure the violation.”

NIKOLA DELIVERED 48 ELECTRIC TRUCKS OVER Q2
The American electric truck builder Nikola Motor built 50 units of the Tre BEV truck in the second quarter and delivered 48 of them to its dealers. The production rate is to be increased significantly by the end of the year.
However, series production of the Nikola Tre BEV only started at the end of March, i.e. at the end of the first quarter. The company is therefore still in the very early stages of series production, which somewhat classifies the current production figures from the quarterly report.
Nikola also built the first alpha versions of the Tre BEV for the European market in the second quarter as part of its joint venture with Iveco, and plans to start series production in the second half of 2023.
