TESLA, MASERATI AND GENESIS OWNER LOYALTY RISING

– Tesla retains a significant amount of brand loyalty and remains a significant factor among premium vehicle brands, according to Tom Libby, associate director and loyalty principal at S&P Global Mobility.

– Libby examined automotive brand loyalty amidst the industry’s protracted inventory shortages, examining who chose the same brand when buying their new vehicle from January 2020 through April 2022, Automotive News reported.

– Tesla, along with Maserati and Genesis, are the luxury three brands that saw an increase in customer loyalty at a time when brand loyalty is eroding

– The good numbers form Genesis and Maserati come from their small sales numbers in the U.S., were large gains come from a relatively small volume of customers. Genesis sold 49,621 vehicles in 2021, while Maserati sold 7,615 units. In contrast, Tesla sold 313,400 EVs, making their 4% increase in loyalty far more significant.

– Tesla’s conquest/defection ratio, which measures the number of customers switching to Tesla divided by the number leaving the brand, was low.

– Overall brand loyalty among Tesla buyers was 73.1% in March 2022, a huge jump from 49.1% the year before.

TESLA MODEL S PLAID GOES “BEYOND PLAID” WITH ASTONISHING 217 MPH RUN

– As recently shared by Ingenext CEO Guillaume André on his personal Facebook account, his company’s Tesla Model S Plaid was able to achieve a speed of 350 km/h. That’s 217 mph, making it pretty much on par with members of the million-dollar “hypercar trinity” like the McLaren P1. Previous posts from the company showed that it has been working on improving its Model S Plaid for some time.

– The astonishing feat was achieved at the Trois-Rivières airport in Quebec, Canada. A short teaser video of the run shared by the CEO featured the Plaid accelerating through the airport’s runway, sounding like a jetliner as it did so.

– Ingenext mentioned to Drive Tesla that one of its modules was fitted onto the vehicle to unlock Tesla’s software limits.

2020-2022 CHEVROLET BOLT EV/EUV BUYERS TO GET RETROACTIVE DISCOUNTS

– General Motors is doing all it can to put the Bolt EV/EUV battery fire recall behind it. After replacing the batteries free of charge for owners of over 141,000 affected vehicles, GM lowered prices by about $6,000 for the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, which now start at $26,595 and $28,195, respectively (including $995 dealer freight charges).

– The automaker now plans to compensate customers who paid more for the vehicles this year before the price cut was introduced. More specifically, all US customers who bought a Bolt EV or EUV in 2022 are eligible for reimbursements, Chevrolet said this week in a memo to dealers seen by Automotive News.

GM’S REPORTEDLY ONLY MAKING ABOUT 12 HUMMER EVS A DAY

– Months after General Motors started delivering its first Hummer EVs, the company is reportedly only producing around 12 of the massive electric trucks a day, according to The Wall Street Journal.

– the Journal says Ford’s producing around 150 F-150 Lightings a day, whereas Rivian’s Q1 production numbers indicate it’s making somewhere between 30 and 40 EVs a day

– Recently, GM announced that it was raising the Hummer EV’s price by $6,250, citing “higher prices for parts, technology and logistics,” according to CNBC.

– Around 77,500 people have signed up for GM’s Hummer EV waitlist, according to Chad Lyons, a GM spokesperson. If the company kept on producing 12 of the trucks a day — a figure Lyons declined to confirm — it’d take around 17 and a half years to get through everyone on the waitlist.

TOYOTA RUNS OUT OF US TAX CREDITS FOR ELECTRIC CARS, JOINING TESLA AND GM

– Toyota Motor Corp. has used up a key US tax credit for hybrid and electric vehicles, a milestone that the automaker says will raise its costs and hinder adoption of climate-friendly cars.

– it sold 3,876 plug-in hybrid and electric cars in June. The US allows automakers to offer a $7,500 tax credit to buyers of fully or partly electric cars, but only up to 200,000 per company. Toyota’s cumulative sales of eligible vehicles have now surpassed that threshold

– Volkswagen has announced it will invest €30 billion to build 6 battery factories in Europe. For the first 20GWh factory in Salzgitter, LEAD will provide Volkswagen with lithium battery equipment including calendering, roll baking, cell assembly line, electrolyte filling, cell baking, formation & aging, and the whole line logistics.

– LEAD says it will become the core supplier for Volkswagen’s 240GWh gigafactory network in Europe by 2030.

DRIVE NOW, PAY LATER: STARTUP MAKES EVS MORE ACCESSIBLE BY PUTTING OFF THE BIGGEST BILL

– The auto industry is banking on electric vehicles to slash planet-cooking emissions, but EVs are still too expensive to knock gas-guzzlers out of the game. For now, at least.

– With $18 million in seed funding led by San Francisco-based Human Capital and London’s Giant Ventures, Tenet says its EV loan offering cuts monthly payments by $200 on average. It does so by letting customers “defer up to 10-25% of their loan amount to the end of their term.” If you’re accepted for a loan via Tenet, the company will point you toward eligible dealers and marketplaces. Tenet also expects its partners to point customers in its direction.

– Tenet doesn’t actually lower an EVs sticker price, so buyers will still need to be able to afford one — a whopping $56,437 on average if they buy new, per Kelley Blue Book. But shaving the upfront price could help more buyers benefit from cheaper upkeep and lower refueling costs.
