Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Frida 16th August 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
XBOX CONTROLLER WORKING WITH MODEL 3
Aaron Greenberg – GM, Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft.
“Plugged my new @Xbox One controller into my @Tesla Model 3 USB port and boom I’m gaming in my car! Played all the games and worked great for something not formally supported, thanks @elonmusk!”
TESLA MODEL 3 ALMOST OUTSOLD TOYOTA CAMRY IN CALIFORNIA IN H1 2019
“Some 74,000 plug-in electric cars were sold in California during the first half of this year at a market share of 7.8%” says InsideEVs: “The new car sales report issued by the California New Car Dealers Association reveals that the overall California market declined during the first six months by 5.6% year-over-year. In such an environment, electrified car sales were increasing and reached H1 market share of 13.0%. The BEV segment is growing quickly, driven by Tesla, which is the quickest growing brand with 40,085 sales (up 85.4% year-over-year). That’s enough for 4.2% share in California (the average Tesla share in the U.S. is 1.1%, but at even faster growth of 110%).”
But how about this for overall performance: The Tesla Model 3 remains the #3 best selling car model with a chance for #2:
Honda Civic – 39,018
Toyota Camry – 33,638
Tesla Model 3 – 33,005
Honda Accord – 27,727
Toyota Corolla – 25,673

TESLA SEMI IS EXCEEDING RANGE ESTIMATES
“Tesla Semi’s sighting this time around proved to be a bit more special, as the CHP-Donner Pass officers were able to speak with the upcoming truck’s driver, who was gracious enough to give some details about the vehicle. According to the Semi’s driver, the matte red all-electric truck is currently operating at approximately 75,000 pounds with its trailer and cargo. What’s particularly impressive is that the vehicle is reportedly meeting or exceeding its range estimates despite its heavy load. ” reports Teslarati: “Tesla has continued to make improvements to the Semi since its unveiling too, with Musk stating on Twitter that the vehicle’s range will likely be closer to 600 miles per charge. “

DAIMLER BUILDS FIRST TWO ELECTRIC FREIGHTLINER ECASCADIA FOR CUSTOMERS
“Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) announced that the first two all-electric Class 8 trucks Freightliner eCascadia were built for customers. The pilot program is delayed compared to the initial plan of delivering vehicles in 2018 but finally we should now see some progress. The trucks are heading to Southern California, where they will be tested by the Penske Truck Leasing and NFI.” says InsideEVs.
From Daimler: “The eCascadias are destined for the Southern California operations of both companies and will arrive later this month. Additional deliveries of the Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet will continue throughout 2019.”
According to Daimler, the Freightliner Cascadia is the best-selling Class 8 heavy-duty truck on the market. The all-electric version with a 550 kWh battery should be able to go 250 miles (400 km) on a charge. The truck is designed for local and regional distribution and drayage.

TESLA UPDATES MODEL Y PRICES, INCREASES PRICE OF MODEL 3 PERFORMANCE
“Tesla has updated its Model Y prices to match recent changes and it increased the price of the Model 3 Performance by $1,000 a month after significantly decreasing the price of the higher-end version of the Model 3.” writes Electrek: “In July, Tesla updated its entire pricing and options. One of the biggest changes was again decreasing the price of the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which was offered for just $54,990 at the time. Today, Tesla updated the price to increase it by $1,000 to $55,990. Tesla updated the Model Y prices to follow the recent Model 3 price changes. Of course, the bigger vehicle is still more expensive, but the prices are now closer to Model 3 prices with a $4,000 to $5,000 difference.”
In the comments, Aldrich “The base price of the respective Model Y trims remains the same. All options were updated to match the rest of the lineup. This includes the the previous $3,000 AP option as standard.”

Absolutely. I chatted first online with Tesla, and then called customer service to verify that my order, LR in white, will go down$2000, and will include autopilot

I tried to modify my order online and when you click the button to do so nothing happens.

Same thing for me. Also, white interior option is gone.

2020 DRAKO GTE REVEALED AS STUNNING 206-MPH EV HYPERCAR
“There’s a new electric hypercar in the mix, and this one looks seriously promising. It’s built by a California-based company called Drako, and it has a rather simple name – GTE. The car makes its public debut today at Pebble Beach, but according to a press release from Drako, the GTE is anything but simple.” says Christopher Smith for Motor1.com: “Such fantastic specs from an as-yet-unknown automaker aren’t really uncommon, but before you chalk this up to another vaporware EV supercar, you should watch the video above. This machine is very quick, and it’s very real. the GTE gets four electric motors – one at each wheel – that produce a combined 1,200 horsepower. Drako says that its torque-vectoring algorithms were developed at the Nürburgring and can adjust torque at each wheel over 1,000 times per second. A 90 kWh battery holds the power, and it’s capable of fast recharging through 150 kW outlets.”

WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC FERRY COMPLETES MAIDEN VOYAGE; 4.3MWH LECLANCHÉ BATTERY SYSTEM
The world’s largest all-electric ferry, named E-ferry Ellen, made its first commercial trip on 15 August, connecting the ports of Søby and Fynshav, on the islands of Aerø and Als, in southern Denmark. Capable of carrying approximately 30 vehicles and 200 passengers, E-ferry Ellen, a single-ended, drive-through Ro-Ro passenger ferry with one continuous main deck for trailers and cars, is expected to be fully operational within a few weeks.
We are very proud to provide specifically designed unique lithium-ion battery system to this ferry, the precursor to a new era in the commercial marine sector. With its 4.3MWh capacity, the E-ferry represents a new milestone in commercial marine propulsion. Over one year, it will prevent the release of 2000 tonnes of CO2, 42 tonnes of NOx, 2.5 tonnes of particulates and 1.4 tonnes of SO2 into the atmosphere. This project demonstrates that today we can replace fossil fuel thermal drives with clean energy, and thus contribute to the fight against global warming and pollution for the well-being of our communities.

VOLKSWAGEN SHOWS OFF ID. BUGGY IN CALIFORNIA
“Volkswagen’s concept all-electric dune buggy – the Volkswagen ID. Buggy – for the first time hits the roads and beaches of California. The MEB-based buggy soon will be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week” writes InsideEVs: “With a 62 kWh battery and up to 250 km (155 miles) of WLTP range, as well as 150 kW rear-wheel drive unit, it should provide equal fun but in total silence.”
