SHORTER RANGE AUDI E-TRON PLANNED FOR EUROPE

“Audi is already introducing a new version of its E-tron quattro electric SUV in Europe with smaller batteries. The short-range model will have a 71-kilowatt-hour battery pack in place of the original’s 95-kwh battery pack.” says Green Car Reports: “Audi confirmed to Green Car Reports that the new model won’t be sold in the U.S. In Europe, it will be rated at 186 miles on the new WLTP test, versus about 249 miles in that test with the larger pack.  The e-tron 50 also won’t get the quick, 150-kilowatt charge rate that other e-trons are known for, though with a smaller battery it won’t need them as badly. The E-tron quattro is the first car on the market capable of using new 150-kw CCS DC fast chargers being installed by several networks in Europe and the U.S. Instead, the E-tron 50 can charge at up to 120 kw, which can still deliver about 100 miles of range in less than half an hour. The E-tron 50 will also have a less powerful motor, rated at 308 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, down from 402 hp and 490 lb-ft. Audi says acceleration will be 7.0 seconds from 0-62 mph, and top speed will be limited to 118 mph. Deliveries of the new model are expected to start in the first quarter of 2020 in, among many markets, the UK, where it will cost about $12,000 (10,000 British pounds) less than the E-tron 55.”

FRESCO MOTORS UNVEILS INTRIGUING ELECTRIC SEDAN

“Fresco Motors, Norway-based EV startup, has unveiled an intriguing new electric sedan with unbelievable specs and features.” reports Electrek: “It’s an all-electric sedan with a radical design that is somehow reminiscent of both the original Tesla Model S prototype (without the nosecone) and a Chrysler 300 (look at the window/door proportions). The Reverie will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). It claims to achieve that with an AC induction motor and a 4-speed automatic gearbox with “overdrive.” The startup also says that its vehicles will come with a wireless charging pad.”

BP TO BUILD CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE IN CHINA WITH DIDI CHUXING

“BP has announced that together with Didi Chuxing (DiDi) it will establish a new joint venture, which will build a charging infrastructure in China.” reports InsideEVs: “The starting point for the new network will be a pilot station, installed by the two partners in Guangzhou, which is equipped with ten DC fast chargers, ranging from 60-120 kW. The plan envisions charging hubs across the country and rapid expansion of the network to meet the needs of the world’s largest EV market. New charging stations will be used by both DiDi’s drivers and the public.”

From Didi: “”DiDi is the world’s leading multi-modal transportation platform, offering users a full range of app-based options, including ride-hailing, automobile solutions sharing, and other services. Its platform already has approximately 550 million users and around 600,000 EVs are running on it in China.

VOLVO CARS USE BLOCKCHAIN TO AID THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) PRODUCTION

“Volvo Cars, based out of China, needs a regular supply of cobalt because of its use in EV batteries. However, the Cobalt was primarily obtained from Congo, which presented a massive social problem for EV users. Statistically, about two-thirds of the world’s Cobalt supply was from Congo.” according to CoinFinews: “Volvo has deployed blockchain to map the source of the Cobalt to their factories. Moreover, apart from Congo, recycled Cobalt from China is another source which Volvo is benefiting from to produce EVs. Hence, blockchain will be used to verify the source of the Cobalt. It has also joined a project with the Government to monitor cobalt from the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

THIS $5,600 KIT CAN GIVE OLD DIESEL CARS AN ALL-ELECTRIC MAKEOVER

“Instead of buying a new Nissan Leaf or Tesla Model 3, what if you could convert your existing car into an EV for a fraction of the cost? French startup Transition-One has developed a 5,000-euro ($5,600) kit to retrofit old diesel cars with all-electric powertrains, reports Bloomberg. Transition-One is only looking at the European market right now.” according to Digital Trends: “Its kit is compatible with many of the small hatchbacks that currently crowd European city streets, including the Renault Twingo, Citroën C1, Peugeot 107, Fiat 500, Toyota Aygo, and Volkswagen Polo. While most production electric cars lack conventional transmissions, owing to the abundance of torque produced by electric motors, Transition-One bolts an electric motor directly to a donor car’s existing gearbox. The charge port is installed where drivers would have previously filled the car up with fuel.”
