Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 4th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.
Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.
TESLA MODEL Y UNVEILING MARCH 14
- “Tesla has confirmed that it will unveil the Model Y electric crossover on March 14. This highly anticipated electric car is expected to outsell the Tesla Model 3. The unveiling will take place at Tesla’s LA Design Studio.” says Eric Loveday for InsideEVs.com: “According to Tesla, the Model Y will be largely based upon the Model 3. This means its cost to develop should be on the lower side, though that doesn’t imply a low price tag necessarily. The newest rumors, combined with info from Musk, indicate a base price $40,000, provided it’s offered with the smallest Model 3 battery pack. However, we don’t think that will be available on the Y and for certain, not anytime soon. Previous rumors indicated Model Y would be a 3-row crossover, though that seems a bit questionable too.”

FIRST TESLA SUPERCHARGER VERSION 3.0 TO GO LIVE ON WEDNESDAY
- Staying with InsideEVs: “We’re now just a few days away from the opening of the very first Tesla Supercharger Version 3.0.
- Tesla CEO Elon Musk says it opens up this Wednesday. This new, higher-powered Supercharger will enhance the long-distance travel capabilities of Tesla vehicles.”
- “We presume that all newer Tesla vehicles will be able to suck down a whole lot more juice at the new Supercharger 3.0. However, the actual outputs of these units is not yet known. Nor do we know which particular Teslas will be able to charge at the highest rates. We do suspect that the Tesla Model 3 will benefit the most from these new Superchargers though.”

VW ELECTRIC BEACH BUGGY FOR GENEVA
- Volkswagen presents the ID. BUGGY at the Geneva International Motor Show. On the evening prior to the first press day, the concept car will celebrate its world premiere at the Volkswagen Group Night. The ID. BUGGY is a zero-emissions high-tech vehicle for summer, on the beach or in the city, based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).
- following on from the ID. (compact class), ID. BUZZ (van), ID. CROZZ (SUV) and ID. VIZZION (saloon), the new ID. BUGGY is the fifth concept car based on the MEB, with which Volkswagen has used to confirm the multifaceted nature of the ID. Family.
ABB FIA FORMULA E CONCEPT LIVERY
- “Mercedes has unveiled an ABB FIA Formula E concept livery ahead of its entry into the electric championship in 2019/20.
- In a video released on Twitter, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff hailed the manufacturer’s achievements in the DTM, which it left at the end of last season ahead of joining the season six FE grid alongside fellow newcomer Porsche.” reports Motorsport.com: “Mercedes is understood to have received its test car from FE supplier Spark to allow it to progress with its 15-day manufacturer testing programme for the 2018/19 season.”
- Wolff said: “”The potential of Formula E is enormous. With each day of progress in our preparations for the first race at the end of this year, our anticipation for the new challenge grows. The competition with Porsche, Audi and BMW, and all the other great manufacturers, will be a very special one – and I’m looking forward to it. We look at this new chapter with excitement and we would be happy if everyone one of your supports us on this thrilling journey.””

PIËCH MARK ZERO CLAIMS 5-MINUTE RECHARGE FOR 300-MILE RANGE
- “The new brand Piëch Automotive presents a concept of its new electric sports car, dubbed the Mark Zero, at the Geneva Motor Show. It is the first in a line of products that Piëch Automotive plans to launch in the next three years.” according to Motor1.com: “The Piëch Mark Zero is an electric gran tourer that measures in at 14.2 feet (4.32 meters) long, with a wheelbase of 8.6 feet (2.62 meters), and a height of 4.1 feet (1.25 meters). The concept is powered by three electric motors: an electric motor on the front axle produces 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts), and two synchronous motors on the rear produce 201 hp (150 kW). Acceleration to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) takes 3.2 seconds, and top speed is listed at 155 mph (250 kmh).”

RIMAC C_TWO MIGHT IMPRESS EVEN MORE IN PRODUCTION FORM
- “Supercar enthusiasts have a lot of reasons to get excited about automakers embracing electrification as plenty of zero-emissions machines have been announced with staggering technical specifications. Case in point, Rimac unveiled the C_Two nearly a year ago in Geneva and now they’re about to show the bonkers electric hypercar with a fresh new coat of paint.” reports Adrian Padeneau for InsideEVs: “Rimac isn’t willing to go into any details for the time being regarding the upgrades they’re planning for the powertrain, but they do say these will be possible thanks to “new development efforts.” For the time being, we know the C_Two has four electric motors with a combined output of 1,914 horsepower and an instant torque of 2,300 Newton-meters (1,696 pound-feet). It’s enough electric punch for a sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in precisely 1.85 seconds, with the 0-186 mph (0-300 kph) taking just 11.8 seconds.”

PININFARINA’S 1900 HORSEPOWER BATTISTA WILL GO OVER 217 MPH
- “As it promised last year, Pininfarina is taking on Rimac with the Battista, a 1900 horsepower/2,300 nm (1,700 ft-pound) hypercar EV that the company calls “the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built in Italy.” according to Engadget: “Suffice to say, this car will be quick, with a top speed of “over 350 km/h” (217 MPH) and a zero to 62 mph time of “under 2 seconds.” Though the target market might not care much, it will have a 120 kWh battery that’ll give it about 450 km (279 miles) of range.”
