Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 4th November 2018. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through EV story today so you don’t have to.

BMW IX3 CAPTURED FROM ALL ANGLES IN NEW SPY SHOTS

“These latest spy shots of the upcoming pure electric BMW iX3, that once-gaping grilled is now more properly closed off as it should be” reports InsideEVs.com: “As our spy photographer tells us, this time we see that development is moving forward as this prototype has the correct bumper and grille under what’s now just a bit of camo, but most notable in this newest batch of photos is that we get to see the iX3 from basically every angle imaginable. As a refresher, the iX3 concept showcased in Beijing had a battery pack with a capacity of 70 kWh providing enough juice for more than 400 kilometers (249 miles) on the WLTP cycle. Based on BMW’s fifth-generation electric drive system, the zero-emissions crossover had an output rated at 270 horsepower (200 kilowatts) and took advantage of fast-charging capabilities to fully “fill up” the battery in only half an hour.”

WHY THE HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC IS OUR TOP PLUG-IN CAR OF 2018

“Logic might dictate this award go to a plug-in hybrid vehicle then, which gives a taste of pure-EV running but keeps a combustion engine in the loop as we adjust to this brave new world.” according to Stuff in New Zealand: “That might have happened, had the Hyundai Kona Electric not come along and completely recalibrated our expectations of what a pure-EV (or Battery Electric Vehicle, BEV if you like) could offer. As car enthusiasts we don’t think BEVs should be all about range. But it’s not an issue with the Kona Electric anyway, which has an official distance-to-flat capability of 486km and will do at least 400km in real-world driving. We know, we’ve tried it several times. To do any better you’ll have to spend the really big bucks on a Tesla.”

ELON MUSK SAYS TESLA & PANASONIC NOW PRODUCING 60 PERCENT OF WORLD’S EV BATTERIES

“Tesla and Panasonic have proven to be quite the power couple. The Japanese electronics manufacturer is Tesla’s sole battery supplier, powering the Model 3, S, and X. On Friday, Elon Musk said on Twitter that the partnership is currently responsible for approximately 60 percent of the world’s electric vehicle battery output.” reports Inverse.com: “He tweeted the figure in response to a Teslarati article summarizing Tesla’s highly successful third-quarter earnings call, which revealed the company beat earnings estimates with $6.8 billion in revenue. Musk took a victory lap by touting that his company isn’t only making money, it’s also turning into the dominant battery player in the industry.”
